Hi again guys; My BX1500 has 80 hours and 4 'bar' tires for pulling power. At the 50 hour interval, I replaced the transmission oil / filter, and the transmission is full of oil. Having said that, today, I tried pulling a small stump (on hard ground) with 1/2 to 3/4 open throttle in 2 wheel drive. One rear tire began digging into the ground, so I engaged the 4 wheel drive. I was unable to pull the stump, and no wheels spun. On the last attempt, the front wheels dug in and I gave up. For peace-of-mind, I'm hoping that this machine has a hydro relief valve of some type which protects the drive train from excessive strain. If that's not so, then I wonder if there is slippage of some kind in the HST or if the hydro pump is delivering it's max. Any input is welcomed. Thanks.

Please don't tell me you use a butterknife as a screwdriver too :). (read: they're not made for that type of work---for very long)
If it's still under warranty, I'd be reluctant to publish such "tests" as the dealer and/or regional rep could call into question your "abusive" behavior toward the product and could jeopardise future warranty claims.
But I'm jis' sayin'.

Thanks for the feedback. My baby Kubota is 3 1/2 years old and looks like the day I bought it. The stump I referred to is about 3 inches in diameter and has about 2 feet of trunk above ground. I hooked a chain to the top part of it to get maximum leverage. I figured that since the BX1500 can handle a FEL, and be able to push the bucket into a pile of dirt, etc., then it could possibly handle this also. I don't have a FEL, but am wondering now, how well these BX1500's handle one. ....

I have a BX2230 with a FEL but am not sure it would do what you are trying to do. A small tree and in some cases even bushes are amazingly difficult to pull out. Even hooking your chain as high up on the trunk as you can, you still can't get the leverage needed to pull it out. You are pulling directly against a lot of hard dirt as you said.
I have trid at various times in my life to pull or push out small stumps with even some very powerful machinery to no avail. The best solution is a backhoe.
If you still want to try removing it with your CUT, put a hose on the ground around the stump for a couple of hours of trickle soaking, dig around it and cut through any spreading horizontal roots, and you might be able to pull it out.

If spinning the wheels was bad for the HST, mine would have been in the junkyard by now.
If you get yourself in a position where you have more traction than horsepower, and the engine refuses to move the wheels....... thats a bit different. But in that case you still have the internal pressure relief valve to protect things.
Bottom line: You didn't hurt the tractor.
And bvance is right, stumps are a lot of work. Someone once told me that however big a tree is above ground, it is the same size underground. That is a huge network of roots to pull against.
BTW.... I always thought the BX1500 was about the coolest thing Kubota ever made. I wish I had one. ....

One element that I did not see mentioned in your text, was whether or not you were attempting this pull in high range or low range. Needless to say, if you were in low range and four wheel drive, you would have had the maximum pulling power that the baby orange could deliver. If it was in high range, it might have initially tried to spin, then would sit there motionless if the task was too extreme, as EW eluded to.

propilot, my guess would be these smaller CUTs aren't built as tough as the bigger CUTs. So they set the relief to release before something goes bad or really bad. Art can give you a more decisive answer cause he knows these machines.
As mentioned earlier the root system on some of these small trees can be massive. ....
